Would It Be Rude To Send E-cards for Chirstmas?

I'm debating on where or not it would be rude to send close friends and family (whom I have e-mail addresses for) and E-card for Christmas instead of a snail mail card? I can cover the annual Christmas letter this way and not to mention save money on postage. I can also attach photo's of the kiddos. The recipient can print out the letter and photo from home.
