Sad Story "Autism Can Be Deadly From The Outside In"

Over on the Age of Autism there is a story "Autism Can Be Deadly from the Outside In" this is a sad story out of Atlanta. A child with autism wandered away from his home only to be found later in a lake in the families subdivision.

I remember hearing or reading 6 years ago, when my oldest was diagnosed ASD, that drowning is the number one cause of death for persons with Autism. That information scared us because our oldest was so attracted to water. When he was 3 1/2 years old he began to take swim lessons through our park districts special recreation office. The instructors have years of experience teaching persons with special needs. The lessons are not cheap in comparison to the general swim lessons offered by the park district, but it is worth the extra time it takes to save a few bucks elsewhere.

I did some googling to locate one universal special needs recreation association and found only localized to the Northeastern Illinois region. I would recommend googling your area to see if there are any special recreation associations. I would recommend trying your nearest YMCA or YWCA.
