An Easy Christmas Cookie recipe... Oreo Balls

Last year I discovered this recipe while listening to WLIT 93.9, here in Chicago land, holiday music. The radio station's website was hosting a cookie exchange, they are doing it again this year. The dj's where just raving about this simple cookie recipe that required no baking. Now you can listen to holiday music live on the website!

Oreo Balls, 2 ingredients and no baking what could be better! Here is goes....

4 pkgs. of Oreo's or any chocolate sandwich style cookie (my sister made it with Nutter Butters)
1 15oz. pkg. of cream cheese brought to room temp.

I made a half batch last year and had over 4 dozen balls.

Place Oreo's in a food processor and process until flaky. Add cream cheese and mix until a dough forms. Then spoon out dough and roll into balls, place on a wax paper lined cookie sheet. Refrigerate until set. If you live in the cold north, put them in your garage, they will set faster and save space in your refrigerator.

Now, I did manage to make this GF/CF, here's how. Updated: 3 or 4 packages of Kinnikinnick KinniToos chocolate sandwich creme cookies and 1 8oz. tub of Tofutti cream cheese. Then do the same, place cookies in food processor and process until flaky and the tofutti blend until a dough forms. Form into balls, place on wax paper, refrigerate until set. Update: Start with 2 pkgs of Kinni-Toos and half of tub of tofutti, if your mixture resembles frosting, crush up more Kinni-toos until mix resembles a dough ball. AutismMomma pointed out the amounts posted before where not quite right. I discovered this too when I made a batch. Remember to refrigerate to set them up and keep them refrigerated once set. Thanks AustimMomma for pointing this out!

My boys really really loved these treats and best of all, they did not feel left out on the Christmas treat fun!

Oh.....my......goodness! These sound good and between (claiming that I do not) have time to do anything and actually not having time to do anything many times, the simplicity of these makes them more than appealing to take to all those holiday gatherings.

Thank you, TY, TY!!!!

:( I think the GFCF version of this may need some tweaking???? I'm not really sure the amounts you gave are correct.

Okay, I tried to make this recipe with K-toos this evening. I wondered how if the original recipe called for four packages of Oreos and a 15oz package of cream cheese that you were able to convert it to GFCF with only one package of K-toos and an 8oz package of Tofutti. I figured with the K-toos packages being smaller than Oreos, I would need AT LEAST two packages of them for an 8oz package of Tofutti - so that's what I did.

I made the recipe using two packages of K-toos and an 8oz tub of Tofutti. The consistency of the mixture was nowhere near a rollable dough...more like the texture of frosting. So I would say if I make this again, I will either try it with three package of K-toos for an 8oz package of Tofutti OR 2 packages of K-toos and half of an 8oz tub of Tofutti.

As they are as I made them, they taste good, but they are definitely not something to let set out for more than a minute or two from being chilled or they turn to a gooey mess.

Oh well, better luck next time.

AutismMomma, You are right on the amounts. I was going from memory, which is not a good idea when pregnant. I made some to and I ended up adding 2 pkgs. of Kinni-toos to the tub of Tofutti. Mine mix was pretty good until I reach the bottom of the bowl. Then it looked like frosting. I will update the post to give readers a heads up, on the amounts of cookies and tofutti. I put mine in the garage to set up, its been cold here in Northern Illinois and my kiddos are loving them.

I agree with you on the Kinni-toos, the pkg is smaller than regular oreo's and 2 to 3 pkgs or Kinni-toos and 1/2 a tub of tofutti would most likely be the best option.
