Chicago Area Historic Cemetery, Bodies Dug Up.

I watched this story tonight on the late news. I am disgusted that anyone would dig up a grave, discard the human remains with no regard to how the deceased loved ones would feel or react to it. ABC 7 Chicago broke the story this afternoon, one of the cemetery workers alerted the owner of the cemetery to the practice the manager was ordering. Click here to read the story or watch the video.

As an amateur genealogist, this absolutely disgusts me. I have not experienced this myself, but I have experienced a lack of care of graves of my ancestors. I make it a point to try to visit the graves of my ancestors that are local every year to plant flowers and clean up the tombstones. For the graves farther away, I try to stop and visit when I pass through the area they are located.

It was reported that the manager had graves of persons who had no activity for several years dug up, vaults removed, and remains discarded. The report continued to say that the plots where then resold and the manager and crew pocketed the money. The owner had no knowledge that this was going on, only when one crew member developed a conscious and alerted him to it. The FBI will be there tomorrow to remove the human remains found and begin the process of identifing the bodies.

Go visit your loved ones graves, clean them up, plant some flowers, and visit regularly.

This is ridiculous. why would people do such a thing to a dead body. I think they reminded that they will pass away one day and would they like if their body is dogged?

Thanks for the post....

I plan to follow this story as it continues to develope. I hope that the authorities throw the "book" at all involved.
